About Me
Kali Meister is an award-winning writer, actor, and filmmaker. She served as the Jack E. Reese Writer in Residence of the University of Tennessee Libraries for 2008-2009. She holds the MFA in Creative Writing from Goddard College in Plainfield, Vermont. Meister prides herself on being a true cross-genre writer. She has had original poems, short stories, essays, news features, and non-fiction works published in various anthologies and literary reviews. Her first full-length play was one of six featured finalists of the 2010 Appalachian Festival of Plays and Playwrights at Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia. Meister, primarily a confessional writer, is an outspoken survivor of sexual violence and an activist who campaigns for the recovery and safety of all sexual assault, child abuse, incest, and violent trauma survivors. She is a co-founder of She Wonder Productions with fellow filmmakers Keri McClain and Jennifer Skeen. She Wonder's primary mission is creating films and film opportunities that strengthen the image of what it is to be female; its short films have been official selections of The Knoxville 24 Hour FIlm Festival, The Secret City Film Festival, and The Knoxville Horror Film Fest. In 2010 Meister formed Wifi: Knoxville (Women in the Film Industry: Knoxville), a social group focused on local women who work in all aspects of the film industry, offering its 260 members networking, employment, and educational opportunities in all things film.
