It concerns the struggle for survival of a man and an injured black wolf marooned on Zarembo Island in southeast Alaska. This place (a real one) is an isolated, uninhabited island graced with a hideous cold, rainy climate, rugged terrain, and insanely dense forest. It's a story (about 12 K words) that explores man's ability to regress to stone-age conditions in a green hell. The man-wolf relationship evolves mutual fear, to tolerance, then respect, and finally to dependence, cooperation and, perhaps, even affection. All of my fiction works are available from Amazon. less

About Me
Now retired as a University of Texas-Arlington professor of geology, Dr. Lowell has published 104 scientific works, served as a mineral industry consultant many times, worked extensively in Alaska, and lived in both Brazil and Portugal.
He now occupies himself writing short speculative fiction and has seven works in publication including a just-released collection of 9 new stories. All are available on the Amazon Books site. His stories are often set in Alaska, Portugal or Brazil and involve odd characters, geology and, sometimes, talking animals.
