#13, July 1995 by John Everson (from The Market List #4)
DEAD OF NIGHT #13 As it turns out, this is the last issue of DON until Oct. '96, when the magazine will begin publishing on an annual schedule. I'm looking forward to this fall, because there was some good stuff in this issue. Gary Bowen offers a sad portrait of a "dream-eating" vampire who finds a sympathetic gay man to share his loneliness with in "Dream Eater." Sally McBride offers a more traditional vampire in "After the First Death," but this vampire is searching for the meaning behind a rare experience. In "A Woman Absent" Stephen Woodworth offers a wonderfully chilling snapshot of a woman who at last leaves her abusive husband -- or does she? Jacie Ragan appears with a new wrinkle on the mummy theme in "Skinshifters" and James S. Dorr explains why witches don't really mind being burned at the stake in "Flying." Oh, and there's also a werewolf story by some guy named Everson. This is the kind of fiction I want to read on Halloween; it's a great 'zine to curl up with in the deep, dark, dead of night! --John Everson Copyright © 1996 by John Everson. All Rights Reserved. |
