#1, May 1996 by John Everson (from The Market List #6)
The Sixth Sense #1 May 1996 This 16-page digest is an offshoot of The Fifth Di... and looks almost identical to that small press 'zine (see The Fifth Di... review, also in this issue of The Market List). But while Baker says in the introduction that this new bi-monthly 'zine was created to" absorb the overflow of submissions" to the larger 'zine, three of the five pieces presented here are by Baker himself. The widely published James S. Dorr provides the best story of this issue: a tale of a spaceship with a HAL complex. In "Hanging Vines," a planetologist who has returned to the ship to seek help for his injured captain and crewmate must outwit the computer running the ship which won't let him in until nightfall "unless the captain orders it." Baker presents a story of ESP-endowed dogs in "NoSpot (Canus Noblese)." He also includes a weird vignette about "Honking Geese and Stalled Cars." The issue ends with another snapshot story from K.A. Williams about a "Wrong Suspect" who gets framed by aliens. For my money, Baker should just have included Dorr's story in The Fifth Di... and been done with it. Copyright © 1996 by TML.
